School Diploma and two-years (2) experience appropriate to the area
of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience
and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and
abilities have been achieved. Job profile Summary: Performs
intermediate to complex technical support, general lab maintenance,
and lab operational support with some degree of independence to aid
in research projects. Responsible for following lab safety
standards. Job Description: A Research Technician position is
available within the project titled “Understanding biophysical
drivers of the CH4 source sink transition in Northern Forests” in
SOLS. A technician with experience in basic Microbiology, DNA and
PCR-based approaches, but outstanding organization and
detail-oriented capacity is sought after to assist culture
management and physiological tests of methanotrophs and
heterotrophs in the laboratory. Position Salary Range: $21.20 per
hour Essential Duties: Culturing, purification and testing of
methanogens, methanotrophs and heterotrophs from soils. DNA
extraction and PCR-based monitoring of microbes: either from pure
cultures or soils. General lab management and maintenance
activities. Prepare reports, charts, graphs, and other
documentation in support of periodic reporting to the public,
scientific briefings, study papers, research manuscripts, research
presentations, and project reports. Assist with data repositories
and other institutions to share data Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor's in relevant fields, including microbiology or
environmental sciences. Demonstrated laboratory experience in
research and laboratory management, with emphasis on organizational
and highly detail-oriented skills. Experience with culturing and
management of microbial isolates. Demonstrated experience with
microbial and environmental data management and instrumentation.
Willingness to work both independently and in a collaborative team
environment. Capacity to support early researchers. Working
Environment: Activities are performed in an office and lab setting
subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and
manipulating a computer mouse, and standing for varying lengths of
time. Will required to wear personal protective equipment before
entering laboratories such as lab coat, gloves, safety glasses,
closed toe shoes, and respirator. Frequent bending, reaching,
lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Ability to clearly
communicate to perform essential functions. This position receives
regular review of objectives by department administrator.
