Facilities Development Management, Office of the University
Architect (OUA), seeks an Architect Senior- Conceptual Design, to
act on behalf of the Office of the University Architect as the
owners Design Manager during the design phases of construction
projects. The primary role of the Architect Senior - Conceptual
Design, is to develop the scope, estimated cost and schedule for
proposed building projects to confirm feasibility prior to hiring
an external design professional to prepare construction
documentation.

The Facilities Development and Management department (FDM) at ASU
is comprised of The Office of the University Architect (OUA),
Capital Projects Management Group (CPMG) and Facilities Management
(FM). FDM is responsible for the development and construction of
all institutional facilities along with the maintenance and
operations programs. FDM manages capital projects of all sizes,
including but not limited to tenant improvements, site improvements
and new construction.
Salary Range
$85,000 - $88,400 per year commensurate of experience and

Essential Duties
Work closely with the University Planner and leadership of various
academic and administrative departments within the University to
develop project definition reports outlining the feasibility of
proposed building projects.
Project definition includes development of the initial scope,
budget, schedule and existing conditions assessments, with the
assistance of internal resources, prior to engaging external design
professionals, this will include preparing preliminary condition
reports, sketches, space plans and presentations.
Ensure that all proposed projects meet Arizona Board of Regents
policies as well as University goals, guidelines and contractual
obligations.
Assist with updating University standards and guidelines.
May supervise activities of subordinate staff members as part of a
project team and perform other tasks as assigned.
Work with end users to prepare detail program needs.
Think critically and present relevant data and information.
Participate and encourage support of the institution's
sustainability programs.
Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities,
which may include and/or are subject to resolution of
conflicts.
Use ability to clearly communicate to perform essential
functions.
DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday, 8:00AM-5:00PM
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or related field and five (5)
years of architectural experience; OR any equivalent combination of
experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills
and abilities have been achieved. Registered as an Architect in the
State of Arizona OR NCARB (National Council of Architectural
Registration Boards) Certification and become a registered
Architect in the State of Arizona within six (6) months after date
of hire. Employee must possess a valid US Driver's license of the
appropriate class and required endorsements throughout
employment.
Desired Qualifications
Experience in:
Architectural design experience in interior tenant improvements,
renovations and additions (e.g. laboratory, office/classroom).
Eight (8 years)
Architecture and architectural principles, practices and
techniques.
Reviewing and interpreting federal and state building and
accessibility code requirements.
Developing test fits for space planning purposes.
Preparing room data sheets .
Conducting, interpreting and preparing building condition
assessments.
Preparing budgets during the conceptual design phase.
Higher education or municipal government environment.
Managing multiple projects and coordinating the work of a design
team to ensure compliance with the program statement.
Organizing and coordinating the work of others.
Managing various project delivery methods including Job Order
Contract (JOC), Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) and Design
Build (DB).
Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Autodesk AutoCAD, Bluebeam
Revue and PMIS (project management information software)
programs.
Working with professionals including architects, planners, interior
designers, landscape architects, engineers and other specialty
consultants.
Demonstrated knowledge of:
Building materials and construction methods.
Programming and conceptual design processes.
Structural, mechanical and electrical engineering systems relating
to building functions and costs.
LEED and current sustainability concepts.
Evidence of effective communication skills
Working Environment
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office
setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and
manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying
lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25
pounds. Drives University vehicle and/or cart to campus site.

This position is located at the University Services Building, 1551
S. Rural Road, Tempe, AZ (on Rural Road south of Apache Blvd).
This position requires that you must possess a valid Arizona
driver's license (minimum of Class D) upon employment and maintain
throughout employment. Post-offer of employment, selected candidate
must possess an acceptable driving record which is 5 or fewer
points in the most recent 39 month period from date of hire.
This position is dependent on the continuation of funding from a
specific source other than general operating funds. As such, this
appointment may terminate when the funding is no longer
available.
