Job Description
The ASU-Banner Neurodegenerative Research Center is seeking a
Research Technician to oversee and coordinate operational
activities in a research laboratory, ensuring that supplies are
ordered, and equipment is functioning properly. This position will
also design and execute laboratory assays according standard
procedures using standard lab equipment, make observations, analyze
and interpret findings. Additionally, this position will be
responsible for ordering supplies and reagents for the laboratory,
maintaining inventories and reconciling invoices for payment.
Salary Range
$20.40 - $25.50 per hour; DOE

Essential Duties
Assists with the design and execution of laboratory assays.
Performs experiments such as protein aggregation assays, ELISAs,
Cloning, IHC, electrophoresis and immunoblotting, tissue
homogenization and molecular extraction, and cell culture.
Responsible for analyzing and interpreting findings including
statistical analysis.
Prepares data and assists with writing manuscripts and grants.
Orders supplies for experiments and/or obtains quotations for
supplies and equipment following procurement rules.
Inventories and restocks supplies for the laboratory. Assists with
scheduling student workers to covers the needs of the
laboratory.
Trains others for equipment usage and proper techniques.
Ensures that all safety guidelines are always strictly followed and
maintains a clean and orderly environment.
Monitors and prepares reagents for the laboratory.
Organizes and stores all chemicals substances, fluids and
compressed gases according to safety instructions.
Records all data and results in specified forms (paper and
electronic) with accuracy and responsibility.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment;
OR, Four years research experience appropriate to the area of
assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or
education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities
have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with electron microscopy,
confocal microscopy, and dynamic light scattering
Demonstrated knowledge in chemistry and/or neuroscience.
Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of
laboratory operation.
Evidence of effective communication skills.
Demonstrated working knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel) and
database systems.
Experience in working autonomously and in teams.
Working Environment
Regular activities require ability to manage multiple tasks at one
time, to be able to prioritize tasks; to manage conflict: to
interact in a team environment: and to communicate through verbal
and written work.
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office
setting and laboratory subject to extended periods of sitting,
keyboarding and manipulating; a computer mouse; required to stand
for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distance to perform
work.
Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25
pounds.
Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities
which may include and / or are subject to resolution of
conflicts.
Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
May be required to wear personal protective equipment before
entering laboratories such as lab coat, gloves, safety glasses,
closed toe shoes and respirator.
