Job Summary
Information Technology Services (ITS) at the MCCCD is looking for a
Data Administrator Sr. on the Academic Technology Team. The
selected candidate will help drive the data strategy at Maricopa
through management of our data lake, developing application
queries, and creating visual data dashboards using Tableau. The
ideal candidate for this position is someone who has an interest in
data structures, data management, and data governance. The
candidate should also possess a strong background in writing and
optimizing complex queries.

MCCCD and the League for Innovation in the Community College
awarded ITS the Innovation of the Year for its development of the
Academic and Student Success Integrated Technology (ASSIST)
platform. And the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation funded ASSIST via
two grants totaling almost $1.5M. This technology enables MCCCD to
affordably deliver high-quality, timely, accessible, and informed
service to all students.
Essential Functions
40% - Manages data models, data repository requirements, data
dictionaries, warehousing requirements and other database
parameters and documentation for the data lake, various databases,
and dashboarding tools; ensures the quality, accuracy and security
of databases
30% - Writes and optimizes queries to manipulate, cleanse and
extract data for users, applications, and/or Tableau dashboards;
creates and maintains Tableau dashboards
10% - Troubleshoots and remediates data issues in association with
other ITS teams and customers; responds to inquiries through
Maricopa's helpdesk system.
10% - Researches industry standards, trends, best practices and
emerging technologies and makes recommendations for implementation;
provides guidance and recommendations for security, architecture,
and other data related issues
10% - Performs other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in any
field and four (4) years of data administration experience as a
database administrator, reporting administrator, software developer
or related technologies role.
OR
Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in any
field and six (6) years of data administration experience as a
database administrator, reporting administrator, software developer
or related technologies role.
OR
High School Diploma/GED and eight (8) years of data administration
experience as a database administrator, reporting administrator,
software developer or related technologies role.
The successful candidate must possess a current AWS Certified Cloud
Practitioner certification or obtain the certification within 6
months of hire.
Desired Qualifications
A. Experience writing structured queries; preferably experience
with MySQL and Presto
B. Experience working with Amazon Web Services tools including Lake
Formation, Glue, Aurora, Athena, and Redshift.
C. Possess a current AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner
certification; Data Engineer Associate or a data specialty
certification is a plus
D. Experience using commonly used data tools such as Tableau,
Apache Superset, PowerBI, and/or Athena
E. Experience managing a data warehouse or data lake, including
creating and managing documentation and an understanding of
governance
F. Experience with basic information security principles related to
data governance, access control, and secure storage of confidential
information; familiarity with FERPA and/or HIPPA is a plus.

This position can be on-prem or virtual based on the location of
the selected candidate.
