Job Summary:
The Arizona Heritage Center is seeking an experienced Museum
Registrar to perform a complex combination of tasks involved with
the acquisition, accession, deaccession, records management and
disposition of the museum's collections. This includes the creation
and maintenance records of artifacts and objects to provide for
their legal protection, safety, insurance coverage, and reflects
their handling, transportation, control and storage of objects and
artifacts.
Job Duties: Essential duties and responsibilities include but are
not limited to:
+ Accession, research, inventory, catalog and manage museum
artifacts and collections objects in accordance with agency policy
and procedures
+ In cooperation with staff, organize and prepare manual files for
computerization and determine software, hardware, systems
maintenance and programming decisions for the museum's catalog.
+ Research and evaluate potential donations and recommend
acceptance or denial to the museum's collections.
+ Make arrangements for packing, unpacking, communications,
transfer and transport of incoming and outgoing loans with various
institutions and private lenders.
+ Perform historical research associated with care, housing and
storage, exhibition and service requests related to the
collections.
+ Respond and answer requests for information.
+ Determine public access to the collections and assist researchers
in using them.
+ Perform re-cataloging as part of continual inventory including
photographing artifacts for identification, insurance,
conservation, and management purposes.
+ Serve as an active and participatory member of various committees
and teams working to support the larger goals of the Society
through civic and professional community engagement.
Other duties as assigned as related to the position.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of museum registrar procedures and legal issues
concerning museum collections;
+ Collections management databases and filing systems; Arizona and
Southwest history; Packing and shipping methods; Museum
preservation and storage practices; Agency's collections policy and
procedures.
+ Skills in registration, cataloging and archival techniques;
Applying and interpreting historic preservation procedures and
associated laws and state statutes.
+ Examination of objects and in basic conservation techniques.
+ Interpersonal relationships; Oral and written communication
techniques.
+ Ability to be detail-oriented, organized, inquisitive and
thorough; Compare and to analyze data; Recognize and remember
patterns; Establish and maintain effective working relationships
with staff and customers; Interpret and apply laws, policies and
ethics.
Selective Preference(s):
Bachelor's degree in American History, Public History, Museum
studies or related field.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
Must have a valid Arizona driver's license or the ability to obtain
one.
