Associate Director, Foundation Initiatives

ASU Enterprise Partners, a private, nonprofit organization comprised of five subsidiaries that raise, create and invest resources for Arizona State University, is seeking an Associate Director, Foundation Initiatives to join our team.

The Associate Director of Foundation Initiatives is a mid-level professional who will lead a team while proactively managing a portfolio of priority initiatives/projects designed to accelerate the generation of revenue for Arizona State University (ASU). This individual must have a proven track-record of increasing responsibilities in higher education or the non-profit industry with experience leading professional staff.

The Associate Director will work directly with the leadership team(s) at ASU and the ASU Foundation for A New American University (ASUF) to create and coordinate the execution of strategies, projects, reports, events, meetings, communications and prospect/donor opportunities. The Associate Director will report to the Director of Foundation Initiatives.

What you'll do:

  • Supervise a team of professional staff and students, who are responsible for the advancement of fundraising projects and initiatives designed to generate new revenues for ASU

  • Manage the design, development and coordination of a diverse portfolio including relationships with external constituents and high priority projects supporting a variety of initiatives by planning, organizing, establishing timelines and/or milestone deliverables, reviewing and coordinating contributions of others

  • Develop business and revenue raising plans for various projects and initiatives

  • Facilitate design thinking and/or strategic planning sessions for various subject matter areas that span across the university

  • Build and develop relationships across the institutional enterprise for increased efficiency and effective responsiveness into existing operations and help to define new operational strategies

  • Develop, implement, and coordinate routine reports and special communications

  • Proactively anticipate project needs and develop and manage timelines to ensure successful outcomes and deadlines

  • Participate in meetings with leadership, stakeholders and various constituents from colleges, institutes, and units

  • Key liaison between foundation central services and college, institute, and unit development management

  • Set and manage timelines that move concepts from early ideation to ready for fundraising

  • Other duties as assigned

What you'll need:

  • Experience in managing full-time professionals

  • Skilled project manager, highly-organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Collaborative style, combined with the ability and desire to work in a team-based environment

  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to Foundation and University business and confidential prospect information

  • Experience in facilitation and/or design thinking sessions

  • Experience in business plan development

  • Strong and collegial interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing, and by phone at the highest levels

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Problem solver who can take initiative and set priorities while being flexible

  • Team-oriented strategist able to effectively manage complex situations involving numerous and sometimes competing constituencies

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines

  • Ability to represent the institution well

  • An advocate's belief in the vision of ASU as the New American University

  • Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing duties

  • Adept at navigating complex environments with evolving priorities and communication plans

Relevant qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred, and 5-8 years of professional development and/or fundraising/advancement experience, preferably in higher education, project/change management, and/or non-profit leadership.

Mental demands:

Clarity of focus while juggling complex projects or deadlines.

Working conditions:

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. May be required to perform tasks in the field within and/or across University campuses. Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions. This position may require some occasional travel or early mornings and evenings to accommodate meetings and events.

Working equipment:

This position will require a laptop computer, telephone, foundation credit card, business cards and a mobile communication device ($60 monthly reimbursement)
