Post-Doc " College of Global Futures: School for the Future of Innovation in Society - Arizona State Postdoctoral Research Scholar, re-Engineered @ Arizona State University College of Global Futures: School for the Future of Innovation in Society Location: Tempe, AZ Inciting a social movement of engineers, scientists, and other professionals to address environmental/climate/energy justice challenges The postdoctoral fellow will be a core team member of re-Engineered, an interdisciplinary group at Arizona State University that is working to build a social movement of engineering for environmental protection and social justice. See for more detail. The postdoctoral fellow will build on the foundations of a project funded by the National Science Foundation and a number of other projects. The successful candidate will preferably have: Research ability in both qualitative and quantitative data management, methods, and analyses, using qualitative platforms (like NVivo, Dedoose, MAXQDA, ATLAS, etc.) and quantitative platforms (SPSS, Stata, SAS, R, Python, etc.) Experience conducting research or analyses of public or private organizations Experience working in teams High quality oral and written presentation skills A self-starter mentality Ability to quickly relate to others, community members, and academics alike Principal Investigator: Darshan M.A. Karwat, Assistant Professor (School for the Future of Innovation in Society + The Polytechnic School in the Fulton Schools of Engineering) Annual salary: Maximum of $52,000 (over 12 months) + benefits, per year Location: Tempe, AZ; remote work possible based on circumstances until Fall 2021 Start date: As soon as possible Duration: Through at least May 31, 2022; extension contingent upon funding available and performance How I'll work with you: I will be committed to your success and will mentor you toward achieving your professional goals. We will work on building a strategic plan for your time here at ASU aimed at setting you up for success as you move into your next position. Tasks may include: the study of collaborations between community-based organizations and engineers, scientists, social scientists, other academics; work to reduce barriers of entry for engineers, scientists, social scientists, other academics to conducting community-based work; contributions to the development of business models to support greater community-group and academic collaborations; and project design, relationship building with key stakeholders, project management, and possibly building collaboration platforms. Outputs will include publications in journals and mass media; grant applications; and, depending on desire, blogs, vlogs, and audio pieces. other related tasks and action-oriented intellectual pursuits. Most work will be conducted in an office environment, though there may be some instances of community engagement some travel (local, domestic) may be necessary as conditions permit Qualifications Required qualifications: PhD in sociology, anthropology, human geography, political science, community psychology, or a related discipline Demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary research and teaching Fluency in written and spoken English Desired qualifications: In addition to the above Experience with mixed-methods social science research, including survey-based research, in-depth interviews, qualitative data analysis, and/or statistical analysis Experience working with diverse stakeholder groups including community groups, government officials, policymakers, non-profit organizations, etc. A bachelor's or master's degree and training in engineering, physical sciences, or environmental sciences Experience working on interdisciplinary teams, and experience collaborating with those working in the physical science and/or engineering Geospatial analysis Fluency in Spanish Application Instructions To apply: Only electronic submissions will be reviewed.
