Description/Summary The Facilities Manager is responsible for
approximately 140,000 square feet of educational, medical, retail,
and administrative space at Sonoran University of Health Sciences
in Tempe, Arizona. This position oversees employees and contractors
in maintenance, janitorial, and security functions to ensure all
work is completed safely, effectively, and in compliance with OSHA
standards. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires both
operational proficiency and a strong service mindset. The Manager
must be equally comfortable preparing budgets, negotiating
contracts, supervising staff, attending leadership meetings, and
climbing onto a rooftop to troubleshoot HVAC equipment—all while
responding promptly, treating community members with respect,
making ethical decisions, and adapting quickly to changing needs. A
five-day, on-site presence is required. The Facilities Manager
supports or directly responsible for the following: Responds
promptly and courteously to maintenance, custodial, furniture
movement, and HVAC requests, demonstrating a customer-focused and
caring approach. Leads remediation, remodeling, and facilities
improvement projects; works with general contractors to deliver
projects on time and on budget, supporting the University’s
long-term infrastructure and future growth. Maintains high service
standards by providing timely, professional, and solution-oriented
responses to campus stakeholders. Performs and oversees hands-on
maintenance work, including inspections, diagnosing issues, and
making repairs in areas such as electrical, plumbing, flooring,
security cameras, drywall, appliances, and exterior structures.
Fosters a positive, respectful, and collaborative work environment,
supporting staff development and modeling resilience during
unexpected challenges. Coordinates third-party vendors for
maintenance agreements, custodial services, HVAC major repairs,
landscaping, and pest control to ensure high-quality and reliable
service delivery. Ensures campus grounds remain clean, safe, and
well-maintained, contributing to an environment that supports
excellent student and employee experiences. Supports on-site events
by providing timely and reliable facilities assistance and event
set-up. Maintains and updates the University’s emergency
preparedness program, ensuring ethical decision-making, readiness,
and calm response during urgent situations. Evaluates buildings,
assets, equipment, and operational processes for compliance with
institutional standards and regulatory requirements, ensuring high
levels of safety and accountability. Promotes environmental health
and safety by adhering to established procedures, responding to
concerns, and making recommendations for improvements. Ensures
compliance with all health, fire, safety, and OSHA-related
requirements. Experience and Education Qualifications Minimum 5
years of experience in facilities management and project management
or construction project oversight. Two years of college coursework
or an equivalent combination of education and experience. OSHA
10-hour or 30-hour card required (or must obtain within one year).
BOMA, IFMA, and LEED certifications are a plus. Outstanding written
and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt
messaging for diverse audiences—from contractors and field crews to
senior leadership—ensuring clarity and collaboration across all
levels. Experience working with general contractors on remodeling,
refurbishing, and remediation projects. Strong commitment to
customer service and a helpful, “yes, we can” mindset that supports
a welcoming and caring campus environment. Demonstrated ability to
uphold high standards of quality and safety while modeling
integrity and ethical decision-making. Excellent verbal and written
communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly,
respectfully, and collaboratively. Ability to coach, mentor, and
support staff in a constructive manner while fostering teamwork and
resilience. Ability to design solutions aligned with broader
business needs and strategic initiatives; documented experience
implementing cost-saving or process-improving measures. Extensive
knowledge of plumbing, electrical, general maintenance, HVAC,
landscaping, and OSHA-related standards. Knowledge of building
systems required; knowledge of security operations and procedures
preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish helpful Working
EnvironmentThis position includes 24-hour emergency on-call
responsibility. OSHA certification must be obtained within one year
of hire if not already held.The role requires physical ability to
lift up to 50 pounds, bend, climb, stand for extended periods, and
walk moderate distances throughout campus. Frequent bending,
reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling of up to 25 pounds may also
be required.The position frequently requires the ability to quickly
shift priorities, manage competing demands, resolve conflicts, and
communicate effectively to perform essential functions.
