Job Description Summary The Manager Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) is responsible for leading, developing, interpreting, and administering, the Environmental, Health and Safety programs for the Peripheral Intervention Headquarters Facility which included various functions including manufacturing, research & development, field sales and other essential departments. This position develops policies and procedures to ensure employee health services are compatible with corporate goals and objectives. This position is responsible for overseeing worker's compensation and all EHS programs as well as supporting Sustainability. This role must have strong knowledge in environmental permitting in a manufacturing environment and serve as Subject Matter Expert on most issues involving Environmental Compliance, Health and Safety regulation, and Workers Compensation. Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and best practices, and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures.   • Demonstrated ability to successfully develop and implement effective health, safety and environmental programs to ensure compliance with corporate requirements in addition to federal, state and local regulations.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to exercise judgment and appropriately communicate and manage during crisis situations, if they are to arise.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and influence individuals at various functions who occupy positions of authority including, but not limited to, project plans and resource requirements to gain the support of these individuals.
  • Demonstrated understanding of federal and state safety and environmental laws and the ability to identify and evaluate workplace hazards and environmental requirements.
  • Able to effectively lead injury/incident investigations; Ensure proper root cause analysis is performed, that safety alerts are written up and distributed and that corrective actions are address. Ensure proper recordkeeping and reporting is completed to meet OSHA and BD requirements. Work closely with the Workers Compensation program administrators to ensure all claims are properly reported and investigated.
  • Strategic partner with R&D and site operations and management to ensure the site EHS program is maintained are fully compliant. Indirectly reports into the EHS Business Unit Leader and meets corporate initiatives.
  • Provide oversight and direction for day-to-day compliance with applicable air, hazardous waste, wastewater, and storm water permits, plans, regulations, etc.
  • Develop and deliver effective training programs on various EHS topics.
  • Execute and oversee occupational health qualitative and quantitative assessments and ensure occupational hygiene programs are robust. Where required, make recommendations on engineering, administrative or personal protective equipment to reduce hazards to an acceptable level.
  • Effective at conducting risk assessments, focusing on unsafe conditions and unsafe work behaviors, including human factors/ergonomics; ensure appropriate action is taken to correct deficiencies. Ensures appropriate follow up on corrective actions to reduce risks to acceptable levels.
  • Responsible for maintaining a good relationship with outside regulatory bodies that oversee state & federal environmental, health & safety regulations.
  • Performs other duties as required to support the needs of the business. Required Qualifications:
    • Experience designing and implementing strategies/programs/processes that supports a business strategy.
    • Experience with applicable GMP, ISO regulations, and knowledge of federal and state environmental and occupational safety and health regulations (EPA, OSHA, NFPA).
    • Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills across all levels of the organization, both internal and external.
    • Works effectively in a team environment.
    • Solid computer skills including MS Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word Preferred Qualifications:
      • Demonstrated ability to lead at the site level.
      • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or equivalent.
      • Medical device products manufacturing industry experience preferred.
      • Experience monitoring and managing sustainability initiatives. Education and/or Experience:
        • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Management/Engineering or Occupational Health & Safety.
        • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the implementation of Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety programs. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use sight, and use hands to manipulate, handle or feel objects, tools, controls, and office equipment. The employee frequently is required to verbally communicate with other associates. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel or crouch. Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be in an office environment, laboratory, or cleanroom.
