Director, ShapingEDU

Company: Arizona State University
Location: Tempe
Posted on: February 25, 2021

Job Description:

ShapingEDU is an ASU program and global community of practice that leads collaborative dreaming, doing and driving of education futures in the digital age. Initiated in 2018 with an invitation-only group of dreamer/doer/drivers, the work has since expanded to include thousands of faculty, students, technologists, and business leaders worldwide through community events and projects. Coming off of the success of two major virtual events (2020-21) and a host of completed innovation projects and guiding resources, ShapingEDU is now seeking a dedicated Director to lead the day-to-day operations and grow the program. As with everyone in the ASU family, culture and communications are core responsibilities in this role.

Do you have a knack for community engagement with inclusion and diversity at the forefront? Do you have what it takes to build strategy and drive community action with a coalition of the willing? Want to develop deep relationships with world-class organizations and changemaking individuals to pave the way for next-gen learning? Is "student voice" the center of your universe?

Funded through the ASU Foundation (ASU Enterprise Partners), ShapingEDU is seeking a full-time director to lead the full portfolio of community engagement initiatives (with an engaged community of practice and resulting collaboratively-produced intellectual products). As a startup-like entity within ASU, ShapingEDU is largely dependent on a coalition of the willing, internal partnerships (University Design Institute, Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, and others) and corporate/institutional contributions/sponsorships. The ShapingEDU director will be responsible for designing and executing on a vision for the daily nurturing and long-term growth of the program -- from strategy to fundraising to implementation.

Networking, relationship management, collaboration, and strategic partnership development are core skills for the director. As ShapingEDU brings in more than $225,000 in ASU Foundation contributions annually, this position is responsible for setting fundraising goals that include the position's salary and other personnel. The director will oversee several paid Innovators and Storytellers in Residence working on active projects (e.g., broadband and accessibility, black swan thinking courses) in addition to volunteer leadership. Ideally this person will live in Arizona in proximity to ASU's distributed campus or be willing to relocate -- with flexibility during the pandemic.

ShapingEDU is largely managed by the Creative and Communications chapter at ASU's University Technology Office (UTO) where it was initially incubated. UTO is a values-driven organization that enables and catalyzes technological developments and capacity to serve the ASU community and beyond. Connecting community members around the world, driving student success via advanced analytics, and building smart cities for social impact are just a few of UTO's many transformative activities that require creative direction for how they are shared with the world. As such, the ShapingEDU Director will report directly to the Executive Director of Creative and Communications at UTO, who also helped found ShapingEDU.
