Associate Director - Energy Innovations Arizona State University FDM Energy Innovations Campus: Tempe 59607BR Job Description: Energy Innovations seeks an Associate Director to, under administrative direction, direct the day-to-day operations of an energy team, which focuses on sustainable solutions; and provide technical and economic analyses, reports, and advice relating to energy supply, energy management, technology implementation and greenhouse gas emissions. Salary Range: To be determined Close Date: 11-March-2020 Essential Duties: Direct and review the activities and operations of team focused on energy and reduction of campus GHG emissions.Supervise, hire, train, and evaluate assigned staff, including mentoring, implementing corrective action and disciplining as appropriate.Participate in the development of long term plans and strategy for Energy Innovations department.Assist in ensuring that department and staff maintain a good working relationship with other ASU departments and personnel and external collaborators/ entities.Develop and/ or assist with development of ASU's energy and climate plans.Seek emerging solutions, technologies and strategies to solve or address ASU challenges/goals.Maintain a strong working knowledge of ASU's energy use, demand profiles and applicable utility rate tariffs and maintain responsibility for tracking overall ASU energy use.Oversee and perform comprehensive technical, financial and feasibility analyses to make recommendations and/or proposals relating to (1) energy generation, storage, distribution and management systems; (2) energy procurement strategies and transactions; and (3) building and other load operation strategies.Champion projects up to management and funding approval and support the implementation efforts with Capital Programs Management Group during design and construction, and Facilities Management during operation.Work with Purchasing, other departments and/or management to prepare energy related RFPs and negotiate energy related agreements to achieve low-cost/high quality services, goods and energy delivery.Assist other Facilities Development and Management departments with technical reviews relating to efficient design, energy management, and/or energy generation for new building or retrofit projects.Oversee contract management of ASU's renewable energy portfolio.Participate in professional growth and development.Oversee the technical work performed by outside consultants to assist in achieving department goals.Present and assist with preparing presentations to management and outside groups.Communicate, participate and encourage support of the institution's sustainability programs.Act in place of Director in that person's absence.Perform other assignments and projects as directed. DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND seven (7) years of related administrative experience, which includes four (4) years of supervisory experience; OR, Eleven (11) years of related administrative experience, which includes four (4) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Desired Qualifications: Evidence of a Masters or Phd in engineering or energy related field.Evidence of being a Certified Energy Manager.Evidence of other nationally recognized energy or sustainability related certifications.Evidence of a current professional Engineer registration Two (2) years of related energy experience working at large campus facility. Subject matter expert in: electrical tariffs/ rate structures.requests for proposals and other procurement tools/ processes.negotiating energy related agreements.distributive generation, smart grid, or microgrid projects.performing project financial analyses (e.g., rate of return, NPV, etc.).greenhouse gas accounting, including use of carbon offsets and renewable energy credits. Evidence of effective written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on clarity, organization, and conciseness. Working Environment: Most activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse. Travel throughout campus will require standing and walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. May also include activities that require bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 20 pounds. The ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see, and hear to perform essential functions is required. The position will drive University vehicles and/or carts as required.
