Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities









What We're Looking For:The Principal Telecommunications Solution Engineer will work independently to design, integrate, test, maintain and assist with management of voice/data network infrastructure and confidently provide guidance in the initial high-level solution from a technology perspective. In this role, you will follow industry best practices, guiding principles and trends to translate business requirements into technical requirements, considering the existing infrastructure and need to integrate new and existing technologies. Additionally, you will participate in ensuring that a scalable and cost-effective voice or data solution is developed in a way that meets the complex needs of the Iridium commercial customers and mission operations. What You'll Do:Play a key role in implementing the future state of the Commercial and Mission Telecom/Data networks. Independently works with telco third parties to implement complex voice/data network solutions that meet the Iridium vision and strategyLead and support cross-functional activities with the goal of planning, prioritizing, and completing projects, service requests, and routine assignmentsAnalyze Voice/Data network configurations and performance data; develop, plan, and make recommendations to improve the performance and efficiency of the telecom network addressing all aspects including hardware, software, outside services, etc. and preventing unplanned disruptions of critical systemsProvide authoritative advice to management and respond to customers' technical inquiriesCreate and maintain design documents (HLD/LLD/DD) and clarify all technical issuesProvide real time complex troubleshooting and problem resolutionMaintain documentation and enhance the process for tracking Telco services including Expense & Inventory Management and associated functions/processes

What You'll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, and training
  • 10+ years of experience in telecom network engineering, design, implementation and support of mid/large-scale Voice and Data Systems/Networks and telco-graded phone switching technologies
  • 5+ years of experience working and negotiating interconnect agreements within domestic and international telco industry
  • Experience with the following WAN network technologies: TDM, SIP, International Telcos, Metro/Ethernet, MPLS, DIA
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues clearly and confidently, and recognize and adapt to different communication techniques
  • Can easily build meaningful relationships with others, including senior leadership outside of your own department, and is comfortable providing constructive feedback to your team members and management
  • Be able to analyze a situation or problem, generate effective solutions, and see those solutions through to completion
  • Must possess the creativity and resourcefulness needed to make reliable decisions and determine methods on new assignments
  • Can thrive in a dynamic environment by handling multiple tasks and managing shifting priorities
  • Be proactive in sharing knowledge you've learned with others Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:
    Knowledge of, and hands-on experience with, of SMS, the use of SMS hubs, and how to interconnect with themKnowledge of, and hands-on experience with, GSM networks, various types of telco fraud, ITU recommendations & International numbering guideExperience with maintaining mid-to-large complex international voice systems and telco networks, including telco graded switchesKnowledge of Data Communications concepts, IP Networking, and newer Voice protocols and solutionsWell versed in use of MS PowerPoint, Excel, and Visio
    Possess an analytical mindset, with the ability to understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions and come up with out-of-the-box solutionsBe proactive in providing feedback and be enthusiastic in sharing your knowledge with others We'll also need you to:
    • Available to support 24/7 on-call on an as-needed basis
    • Be able to travel up occassionaly, about 2 to 3 times per year
